Orthotic sandals have revolutionized the footwear industry. At one time, orthotics restricted the shoes you could buy because there were limited styles available that could accommodate a foot orthotic. In addition, many podiatrists recommended their patients avoid sandals and flip flops because they did not offer support, additional depth for foot deformities, cushioning or shock absorption. Changes in the footwear industry have finally given you the opportunity to wear fashionable and comfortable (imagine those two words used to describe shoes) sandals and flip flops that are healthy for your feet and allow you to still wear your foot orthotics – even in the summer!
We feature two types of orthotic sandals: sandals and flip flops with built-in orthotic support and sandals with removable foot-beds that have the depth available to accommodate a custom foot orthotic. Sandals with built-in orthotic support benefit everyone, whether you currently wear an orthotic, are considering an orthotic or you do not even know how to spell orthotic. Most of the benefits of a true custom foot orthotic are apparent in sandals with built-in orthotics. While you are wearing the sandals the built-in orthotic will provide arch support, help control pronation and align your body so it can function at its optimal position. Consider wearing your sandals while you are inside your home too instead of going barefoot. The benefits of the orthotic can only be felt when you are wearing your sandals so don’t take them off when you get home. You will feel a difference and your feet will thank you. Best of all, you will actually like the way our sandals and flip flops look; they are stylish! We offer both flip flops and sandals in a variety of materials and colors so we have something everyone will like. Our Sandals with removable foot-beds will accommodate most full length custom foot orthotics. We recommend using full–length orthotics in sandals with removable foot-beds because once you remove the foot-bed of the sandal, there is no cushioning for your foot if you insert an orthotic that is sulcus or met length. To ensure an exact fit for sandals with removable foot-beds, we offer a sandal and orthotic package that includes a custom foot orthotic made from a mold of your foot that fits perfectly inside the sandal once you remove the foot-bed of the sandal. Because each manufacturer’s lasts differ, we make a slightly different custom orthotic for each one of our sandal collections. We are always looking for new styles to add to our sandal collection so don’t be surprised if you have a hard time picking out your “favorite” pair.
Sizing Information:
The Sole Platinum sandal is available in women's whole sizes 5-11. These sandals fit a medium (regular) width the best.
Tips on FIT
Each product in our footwear line has a slightly different fit and personality. Even though the straps on the Casual Flips and the Sport Flips are the same outer shape, they actually fit differently because of different materials. Because the characteristics of each strap material are different, we actually use different lasts for each model.
- Sport Flips should be a snug fit. The strap stretches more than the others and you can start with snugger straps because of this.
- Sport Slides have a NEW, elastic strap this year. This year we think we nailed it, and the Sport Slides accommodate different foot shapes while still being snug: no blisters and a great fit.
- Casual Flips should be a more relaxed, looser fit. The sustainable materials of these straps are not as forgiving and don't stretch as much over time as the Sport Flips straps, so they should fit a bit looser when you first try them on. The footbed of the Casual Flips may feel a bit harder than the Sport Flips. This is because of the cork wrapping the footbed.
- Premium Flips are made with quality, vegetable-tanned leathers. Like any leather shoe, they will break in as the straps stretch a bit and take on their own personality. Just like the Casual Flips, the leather-wrapped footbeds need a break in period to become as soft as the Sport sandals are right out of the box.
